UPDATE-Las Vegas, NV-Multi-Vehicle Crash At E. Carey Ave. & N Nellis Blvd. Has One Fatality
Las Vegas, Nevada (July 20, 2019)-UPDATE
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police have reported that there was one fatality as a result of the crash which occurred at about 1:34 p.m. on Friday afternoon in the east valley. The accident which occurred at the intersection of East Carey Avenue and North Nellis Boulevard resulted from a speeding driver of a 2016 Elantra which ran a red light.
The Elantra struck a 2003 GMC Envoy and then crashed into a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder. Additionally, a school bus which was passing by was hit with the flying debris, luckily none of the occupants of the bus had injuries.
All of the individuals who were in the GMC, the Hyundai, and the Pathfinder had to be transported to UMC. Both the drivers of the GMC, as well as the Pathfinder, suffered only minor injuries according to the police.
The driver of the Hyundai was identified as a 31-year old man from Las Vegas, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital. A female passenger riding in the GMC suffered critical injuries. It is not believed that impairment was a factor in the cause of the accident at this time.
This marks the 61st traffic-related fatality of 2019.
